Where are the tree houses and viewpoints?
Rumah Pohon and Thousand Islands Lookout are located on the east coast of Nusa Penida.You will be at Diamond Beach and Attu Beach.Find them next to each other. Visiting these four countries is the perfect day trip.
It takes approximately 1 hour to drive from Toya Pakeh (Banjar Nyuh) Port to Tree House and Observation Deck and 45 minutes from Buyuk Port.
If you want to visit the RUMAH POHON tree house, where to stay?
On Penida Island, the worthwhile attractions are located far away from where most tourists stay. If you want to visit a tree house or any other attraction on the island, you will have to take a motorcycle or hire a driver anyway. Therefore, you can be flexible when booking your accommodation.
I recommend staying close to the two harbors because here you will find the best restaurants and bars as well as some small stores. Choose a hotel or guesthouse close to the beach and you will thank yourself later.

How to get to the Treehouse & Viewpoint
Scooter or car?
Nusa Penida is known for its bad roads and unfortunately apps like gojek don't work on the island. Even if you are an experienced motorcyclist, I wouldn't recommend renting one here. The roads are steep, mostly gravel, and the local drivers drive roughly with no regard for the safety of motorcycle tourists.
Tourists usually overestimate their abilities and end up either pushing their bikes uphill in the heat or having to be picked up by their accommodation.
Driving here can be especially tricky if you're carrying a passenger on a bicycle, as you'll have to travel at high speeds to get up the hill.
If you're not very confident on a scooter, then do yourself a favor and get a driver. You'll spend a lot of time getting from place to place on this island, and you'll have a much better experience if you're sitting in an air-conditioned van rather than getting sunburned on a bike.
You can regain the freedom to explore by bike on the next island you visit.

Hired drivers
Many people choose to explore Penida Island by car. Many locals make a living by providing cabs and day trips. You can hire a driver for 10 hours for about IDR 500,000 (about €32), including parking and gas. During this time, the driver will take you wherever you want to go, within reason of course. Be sure to tell them about your trip in advance and they will let you know what is realistic.
You can also ask for your accommodation in Penida Island, however, you will have a hard time bargaining.
Make sure you don't overpay, and tip your driver at the end of the day if they've done a good job. Paying for lunch is also a habit.
Walking distance to tree house and observation deck
The parking lot is located at the top of the cliff, and there are also some stalls there. It is a 10-minute walk to the Chishima Observation Deck and a 5-minute walk to the Tree House. The steps are recently constructed and are easy to climb. It is steep in some places, but easily manageable.
Ruma Bohon Tree House

The most famous tree houses are situated right on the edge of the cliffs and have by far the best views. If you are planning to stay in one of the tree houses, make sure you choose this one, it will be spectacular.
Should you stay at RUMAH POHON Treehouse?
If you are considering renting one of the three treehouses, you should know how remote they are. There's not much to do, except visit the observation deck or eat at the snack bar at the top of the cliff.
If you are looking for peace and quiet and really want to experience this unique location then this is a great place to stay. Be aware, however, that the first visitors will arrive around 7am, which may disrupt your experience as they tend to climb up the ladders and balconies of the treehouse.
However, you will be able to see the most spectacular sunrise.
The interior of the treehouse is very basic, no air conditioning, basically just a bed and a bathroom (if you can call it that). You wouldn't stay here for comfort, but the experience is worth it.
Thousand Islands Observation Deck
This lookout is located just off the main road to the treehouse. The blue rope will show you where to go.
You will enjoy the best views of Diamond Beach and its impressive staircase.
The cliffs are very steep so be careful when taking photos, especially if there are a lot of other people there when you visit. There's really little space and it's easy to trip over.
When to go to Treehouse and Viewpoint
The best time to visit Thousand Islands Observation Deck and Rumah Pohon Treehouse is early in the morning. You should arrive before 8:00 a.m. to avoid the large crowds of tourists.
This is one of the most popular attractions on Penida Island and as such is always busy. It's worth coming early to get the best experience.
The heat is also a major factor. If you are there in the middle of the day, walking up and down the steps can be very tiring and sweaty.
Admission Fee
No tickets are required to visit the Treehouse and Observation Deck. Parking fee is IDR 2,000 (approximately €0.13).
Drone
The Treehouse is a great place to fly a drone. The Thousand Islands Observation Deck may be less desirable as it's too small and there are no railings to protect you from the steep drop.
Should you visit ATUH and Diamond Beach first, or should you visit the Treehouse and Sightseeing Point first?
It's all up to you and what's most important to you. In the end, the first place you visit will be the place where you get the best photos and experience.
Crowds come in early, and when you visit one site, another is likely to be quieter. I recommend visiting the Treehouse and Observation Deck first, mainly because you'll probably spend more time at Diamond Beach and Attu Beach.
However, if it's Diamond Beach and Attu Beach that you really care about, then there's no harm in heading there first to experience these unique beaches in peace.
